For the driver's cab to remain comfortable throughout the warmer months, the air conditioning system is crucial. In motor vehicles, cooling is provided using a compression refrigeration system: In a closed circuit, a refrigerant moves back and forth continuously between the liquid and gaseous states. Though no chill is created, the heat that is transferred inside the car is removed from the surrounding atmosphere.

In the winter especially in cold, wet weather, air conditioning is also used to reduce window fogging by dehumidifying the air. Of course, the heating feature, which creates comfortable warm temperatures in the winter, is even more crucial.
