Engine management systems are controlled and regulated by sensors and the technology that supports them.
A sensor is a device that can gather one or more physical properties, such as temperature, position, movement, speed, etc., and turn them into a signal that can be processed by the ECU electronically.

This comprises components including electro-pneumatic valves, ignition coils, and fuel injectors. In order to provide the ECU with more control, actuators provide feedback on factors like location, power usage, and load.
