Nearly all automobiles have electronically operated radiator fans. They are crucial in regulating cooling airflow as needed.
They typically consist of an electric motor that the engine control unit regulates as necessary. Fan connections are another option, and they are common in older cars.
They are made up of two discs with a liquid between them (silicone oil). The engine powers one disc, while the fan blades power the other. A bimetallic spring makes sure that the liquid between the discs is transferred via adhesion to the opposite disc if cooling is necessary.
