Reducing nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from the engine's exhaust is the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system's goal.
EGR valves come in two basic varieties. One employs an electropneumatic pressure transducer, which the ECU controls to open and close, and is vacuum operated. DC electric motors, often known as stepper motors, are used to drive the other. The engine load affects when the vacuum and electronic kinds are opened and closed.
