All but a few automobiles have electronically controlled radiator fans. They are crucial in managing the appropriate amount of cooling airflow.
In most cases, they have an electric motor that the engine control unit regulates as needed. Fan couplings are an additional option that can be found in older cars.
They have two discs with liquid positioned between them (silicone oil). The fan blades are attached to one disc, while the engine powers the other. The liquid between the discs is transported by adhesion to the other disc if cooling is necessary, and a bimetallic spring makes sure of this.
