The Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP sensor) gauges the pressure in the inlet manifold and provides the engine's electronic control unit (ECU) with real-time manifold pressure data. Calculating air density and figuring out the engine's air mass flow rate both rely on information from the MAP sensor.
Since it evaluates the performance of the throttle and turbo, this sensor's data can be utilized for diagnostics. It can also be used to identify unmetered air leaks in the inlet manifold.
