Intercoolers (also known as air coolers) cool compressed air in the compressor before delivering it to the engine in supercharged combustion engines. Lowering the temperature of the air increases its density, which increases the amount of oxygen and fuel available for combustion, increasing engine efficieny (increase in power).
With an aluminum core and aluminum or plastic tanks, the most common air cooler design is similar to that of a radiator. Normally, the MN4160 Intercooler is located between the engine and the supercharger.
