Coolant is stored in expansion tanks. The coolant expands as the temperature rises, causing the pressure in the engine cooling system to rise. A pressure valve is positioned in the tank cap and controls the fluid pressure.
The IVT140 Expansion Tank is commonly made of plastic and can be divided into several chambers. It can be transparent and feature an additional level indicator or an electronic liquid level sensor to ensure that the coolant level is controlled.
