The coolant is stored in the expansion tanks. The coolant expands as the temperature rises, increasing the pressure in the engine cooling system. A pressure valve situated in the tank cap regulates the fluid pressure.
The SCT051 Expansion Tank is commonly made of plastic and can be divided into several chambers. It can be transparent and feature an additional level indicator or an electronic liquid level sensor to ensure that the coolant level is controlled.
