In supercharged combustion engines, intercoolers (also known as air coolers) are used to cool compressed air in the compressor before transferring it to the engine. Lowering the temperature of the air improves its density, which increases the amount of oxygen and fuel available for combustion, improving engine performance (increase in power).
With an aluminum core and aluminum or plastic tanks, the most common air cooler design is similar to that of a radiator. Normally, the RE4019 Intercooler is located between the engine and the supercharger.
